the focus of sattva yoga ksetram is to serve society, help others experience the joy and power of yoga by sharing the precious source teachings it has received…

Established in Scarborough, Western Australia by Yvonne Henderson, sattva yoga ksetram is dedicated to teaching yoga following the holistic teachings of Sri T Krisnamacharya. Here, individual needs and abilities are respected for promoting health and wellbeing of body, mind and spirit.

sattva is a Sanskrit word meaning Pure…Light…the Light of Clarity and Balance.

yoga has many interpretations. The word Yoga derives from the root yuj which has two traditional, complimentary meanings. The first is “to bring two things together, to meet, to unite”. The second is “to converge the mind”. Various movements come together and converge with our attention. Another meaning may be even more important: “to reach a point we have never reached before”. Something that is impossible at this moment becomes possible through yoga…  At the deepest level, all these meanings come together.

ksetram is a Sanskrit word which means both centre and field…so sattva yoga ksetram can be a yoga centre full of sattva or could be looked upon as a sattvic field in which yoga can grow. Grow in the Light of Knowledge and Joy.

Yvonne Henderson
Accredited KHYF Teacher and Yoga Therapist

Yoga has been an integral part of Yvonne’s life for over 37 years. During this time she has been regularly visiting Chennai and studying the teaching of Sri Krishnamacharya with his son TKV Desikachar, and Vedic chanting with Menaka Desikachar. In due course Desikachar assessed Yvonne to become an accredited Krishnamacharya Healing Yoga Foundation (KHYF) Teacher and Yoga Therapist.

The great power yoga has-to-heal, has always been closest to her heart and over the years would take every opportunity to observe therapy consultations. It was a great privilege for her to have observed Desikachar and assist Menaka prior to and during her (KHYF) Yoga Therapy training. These precious learning experiences have been invaluable.

In 2009 Yvonne conducted a research study

“The Effects of an Individual Yoga Practice on the Quality of Life for people living with Multiple Sclerosis”.

In 2010 she was commissioned by the Midwest Commonwealth Respite and Care link Centre to conduct Yoga Therapy consultations for people with MS living in Geraldton and rural areas of Western Australia.

Since 2014 Yvonne has provided a weekly yoga class at Solaris Cancer Care in Cottesloe, and in 2017 introduced Yoga Therapy one on one consultations to their weekly program.

T. Krishnamacharya always insisted on utilizing the spirit of yoga to enhance the quality of our lives. He never insisted on one particular technique, but rather emphasised that techniques must be evolved to suit the needs of the individuals at the given moment.
